Fraudster jailed for three years after Kempton Park investigation

Detective Sergeant Tumelo Phaka secured a direct imprisonment sentence for a man convicted of attempting to use a stolen ID at Festival Mall.

Detective Sergeant Tumelo Phaka’s dedication and hard work ensured a three-year direct imprisonment sentence for fraudster Necolius Mnisi on February 4.

The case dates back to October 28, 2024, when members of the sector policing team responded to a fraud complaint at the Truworths in the Festival Mall, Kempton Park.

Sergeant Ngobeni and his team interviewed the complainant, who said the suspect had tried to buy goods using another person’s ID document.

Mnisi was soon arrested and detained at the Kempton Park SAPS holding cells on charges of fraud. The case docket was later assigned to Phaka.

Through thorough investigation and acommitment to duty, Phaka ensured the matter was successfully prosecuted.

The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Mnisi to three years and declared the fraudster unfit to possess a firearm.

Acting station commander Colonel Lesomo Motsatsi commended Phaka and said fraud remained one of the station’s priority crimes. She urged community members to remain vigilant.

Colonel Motsatsi advised residents, particularly those withdrawing cash, to be alert to being followed and avoid responding to fraudulent messages.

She encouraged people to do their banking inside banks to reduce the risk of becoming victims of crime.
