Driver released on R500 bail following fatal Clayville crash

Two young girls, aged 10 and 11, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and were declared dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old man accused of causing a fatal crash in Clayville has been released on R500 bail.

The suspect, Thabo Kgabo, was arrested on March 20 after officers from the EMPD Clayville Precinct responded to a collision at the intersection of Olifantsfontein Road and South View involving two vehicles.

It is alleged that Kgabo, who was driving an Audi, was under the influence of alcohol when he collided with a Toyota Avanza.

Following an alcohol test, Kgabo was found to have a reading of 0.64.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, culpable homicide, and fleeing the scene.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that Kgabo was granted bail of R500. According to NPA communications officer Mogaboke Mohlatlole, the matter has been postponed to August 6 for further investigation.
