Five SA women arrested at OR Tambo with drugs worth over R5m

The suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 31, facing charges related to drug trafficking.

The SAPS, in collaboration with Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), arrested five South African women for drug trafficking at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday, March 28.

According to SAPS spokesperson Lt Col Amanda van Wyk, the suspects were found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value exceeding R5 million, concealed on their bodies.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were en route to China via Dubai,” said van Wyk.

Police discovered the drugs hidden in the suspects’ sneakers, underwear and private parts during a search.

The five suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 31, facing charges related to drug trafficking.

Investigations are ongoing.
