Gunfire erupts as armed gang steals ATM
During the exchange of fire, suspects managed to remove an ATM from the pharmacy and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
On Monday morning, May 4, at approximately 01:50, Ivory Park SAPS responded to a business burglary in progress at a pharmacy along Freedom Drive in Ivory Park, where an ATM was forcibly removed.
A case of attempted murder has since been opened after police came under fire during the incident.
According to police, an unknown number of suspects fled the scene with automatic rifles after engaging officers in a shootout.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they were met with several gunshots from automatic rifles. They responded, and during the exchange of fire, the suspects managed to remove the ATM from the pharmacy with an undisclosed amount of cash,” said police spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela.

The suspects fled in an Isuzu bakkie. No arrests have been made at this stage, and no police officers were injured during the incident.
