Rabie Ridge police investigate ATM bombing heard in Kempton Park
On arrival, the police noticed that two Capitec ATMs had been bombed. Money was scattered on the floor, two computers had been stolen.
Rabie Ridge Police are investigating an ATM bombing that took place in the early hours of Monday, September 8.
At around 02:17, police received a complaint of an ATM bombing at the Phomolong pay point.
While en route to the scene, officers heard a loud explosion from the Mayibuye Complex, near the Modderfontein Road intersection, and immediately called for backup.
According to Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the officers then came under gunfire.

“The police heard gunshots directed at them. Backup arrived and the officers retaliated,” she said.
On entering the complex, police observed a white Quantum minibus and another white vehicle leaving the premises, while several other cars at the traffic lights drove off.
“On arrival, the police noticed that two Capitec ATMs had been bombed. Money was scattered on the floor, two computers had been stolen, the ATMs were damaged, 23 television sets were taken, and an unknown amount of cash was missing,” said Sekgobela.

She added that security guards at the complex reported seeing about 20 suspects entering the premises.
The suspects remain unknown, and the registration numbers of the vehicles involved are also not yet confirmed.
Rabie Ridge police have opened a case of ATM bombing and are continuing with investigation.
