Newborn baby found dead in Rhodesfield open space

Responders found a newborn baby boy who had been placed inside a plastic bag and left among rubble in the open area.

A newborn baby boy was found deceased in Rhodesfield on June 2 after community members alerted emergency responders to a possible abandonment incident.

According to information received through a local service delivery WhatsApp group, a passer-by reportedly discovered a plastic bag in an open space near a hotel in Gladiator Street.

After investigating the contents, the individual realised it appeared to contain a baby and alerted others.

Following the report, Share It Live Operations immediately dispatched multiple response teams to the area to search for and verify the information.

At approximately 13:22, responders located the scene and directed emergency services to the exact location. ER24 paramedics arrived shortly afterwards to assess the situation.

On examination, responders found a newborn baby boy who had been placed inside a plastic bag and left among rubble in the open area.

Despite efforts by emergency personnel, the infant was declared deceased at the scene.

Members of the Kempton Park SAPS arrived shortly afterwards and took over the scene for further investigation.

A number of organisations and emergency response partners participated in the operation, including private security companies, medical response teams, community policing structures, AfriForum representatives and SAPS members.

Authorities have appealed to anyone who may have information relating to the incident to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
