After an all-out mobilisation of police resources, a three-day-old baby girl abducted from the Margaret Zuma Clinic in Winnie Mandela, Thembisa, yesterday was safely reunited with her parents.

This morning (June 24) at around 10:00, Thembisa SAPS received a call from Thembisa Online following a tip-off from community members who had spotted the suspect in the Dali Mpofu informal settlement.

Acting swiftly, officers responded to the scene and arrested a 21-year-old woman.

The missing infant was found with her, still wearing the same clothes she had on at the time of her disappearance. The child was positively identified by her mother.

Police transported the baby to Tembisa Tertiary Provincial Hospital for a medical check-up. She will be handed over to her parents once cleared by medical staff.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of child abduction.

Thembisa SAPS acting station commander Colonel Percy Selematsela thanked residents of the Dali Mpofu informal settlement for their vigilance and cooperation.

“This is the partnership we need as the community of Thembisa to overcome all kinds of crime. My office is always open for any information, complaints, or compliments,” said Colonel Selematsela.

Colonel Selematsela also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, especially during the school holidays.

He cautioned against leaving children unsupervised and advised the community to never trust strangers with their children.
