Suspect arrested after stolen Mercedes-Benz recovered in Kempton Park

A vehicle enquiry was conducted using the vehicle identification number (VIN), which confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 2024 with Lyttelton case number.

EMPD Intervention Unit officers arrested a 28-year-old male suspect and recovered a reported stolen motor vehicle in Kempton Park on June 7.

Officers were conducting patrols when they noticed a suspicious grey Mercedes-Benz V-Class with a single male occupant on Pretoria Road.

The vehicle was not displaying a registration number plate or licence disc; however, a temporary permit was displayed on the rear window.

EMPD Intervention Unit officers arrested a 28-year-old suspect and recovered a reported stolen motor vehicle in Kempton Park on June 7.

Officers stopped the vehicle to conduct a routine inspection, during which further discrepancies were identified. It was established that the temporary permit displayed on the vehicle was fraudulent.

A vehicle enquiry conducted using the vehicle identification number (VIN) confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 2024 under a Lyttelton case number.

The suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and detained at the Kempton Park Police Station.

He is expected to appear in the relevant Magistrate’s Court soon.
