Police and CPF engage learners on crime prevention in Thembisa
SAPS educate a church about the importance of trusting their service.
On May 23, members of the SAPS and the CPF visited Thembisa South SDA Church as part of an Education Day programme to engage learners on safety and responsible decision-making.
The session targeted learners from grades eight to 12 and focused on personal safety, the role of SAPS in the community, and the importance of making informed choices to avoid involvement in crime and risky behaviour.

Organisers said the objective was to educate young people on crime prevention, substance abuse awareness and personal safety, while also strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community.
Speaking after the engagement, Sergeant Kate Selepe of Thembisa South SAPS said the programme had a positive impact on learners.
“At the end of the session, learners gained a better understanding of SAPS’ role in the community and were equipped with knowledge to make safe and responsible decisions.
“There was increased awareness of crime prevention, substance abuse and personal safety,” said Selepe.
She added that the initiative also helped build trust between SAPS and young people through positive engagement in a community and faith-based setting.
“Improved trust between SAPS and the youth was achieved through positive interaction in a church setting.
“Learners were encouraged to report crime and seek help from SAPS when needed, which strengthened the partnership between SAPS and Thembisa South SDA Church in youth development and safety initiatives,” she said.
