SAPS investigating R21 shooting linked to alleged tyre theft attempt

Preliminary information suggests that two men travelling in a white vehicle allegedly attempted to steal tyres from the truck.

Motorists travelling on the R21 southbound near Pomona Road are experiencing traffic delays following a shooting incident that has closed two lanes of the freeway this morning.

According to the EMPD Freeway Unit, officers responded to reports of a truck obstructing traffic in the middle of the roadway.

On arrival, they found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The truck driver reportedly confronted the suspects and discharged a firearm, striking one of the men. The second suspect fled the scene.

The injured man was treated on scene and transported by ER24 to Tembisa Hospital in a serious condition.

The matter was handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.
