Motorist faces court after alleged 199km/h speeding offence
EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said speeding remains one of the contributing factors to road fatalities.
A 34-year-old motorist was arrested in Kempton Park on August 12 after allegedly being caught travelling at 199km/h in a 120km/h zone.
According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa, High-Speed Unit officers were conducting a law-enforcement operation when they recorded a grey BMW X1 travelling at the alleged speed using ProLaser 4 speed-measuring equipment.
“The vehicle was stopped and the driver was unable to provide what officers considered a satisfactory explanation for the alleged excessive speed,” she said.
The motorist was arrested and charged with exceeding the prescribed speed limit.

He was detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
Thepa said speeding remains one of the contributing factors to road fatalities.
“The EMPD will continue enforcing the law against motorists who exceed the prescribed speed limits,” said Thepa.
The department urged motorists to comply with the rules of the road and exercise caution when driving on public roads.
