The man accused of murdering Ntombifuthi Nxumalo, whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Thembisa on September 26, appeared before the Thembisa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 29.

Victor Matome Rampedi, 36, was arrested in Mohlabaneng Village in Limpopo in connection with Nxumalo’s murder.

Rampedi faces a murder charge, with the matter classified under Schedule 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

He remains in custody after his bail matter was postponed to October 6 for further bail investigations.

The state is opposing bail.

According to SAPS, Nxumalo is believed to have been stoned to death. Her body was discovered by members of the Vusimuzi community at Mooifontein Cemetery on September 26.

Rampedi’s court appearance on Tuesday was his first since his arrest in Limpopo.

The murder comes amid growing concern over the number of women whose bodies have been discovered in and around Ekurhuleni in recent months.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nxumalo’s death is continuing.
