Three suspects caught with unlicensed firearms in Rabie Ridge

Incidents in Rabie Ridge lead to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of two firearms.

Members of the community summoned police to Mayibuye in Rabie Ridge after the recovery of one firearm and live ammunition from two men on August 6.

“These community members were patrolling at about 03:00 when they came across two suspicious-looking men. After searching them, they found a firearm, ammunition and a toy gun in their possession.

“The police were called and the two suspects were taken into custody,” said Captain Neldah Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni SAPS District communications officer.

In another incident in Rabie Ridge, the crime prevention unit members were called to the scene of a shooting and robbery in Phomolong, Rabie Ridge, on August 3.

Firearms were recovered from the incident on August 3.

 

“On the way to the crime scene, the officers saw community members chasing after one of the two suspects allegedly involved in the shooting and robbery of a man,” said Sekgobela.

Officers joined the chase and with the help of the community members, they arrested the suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and six live rounds.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole applauded the community for assisting the police.
