On December 24, the AJP Group celebrated the holiday season by providing Christmas gifts to the less fortunate at the Bophelong-Empilweni New Life Community Project in the Ndulwini Section of Thembisa.

The participating brands who joined in on the day included Simba, First Choice, Koo, Dairymaid, McCain, Bakers, Sea Harvest, Parmalat, Ace Maize Meal, Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Clover, Lancewood, Nature’s Garden, Albany Bread, Liqui Fruit, Dr Oetker, Bartlet Eggs, Maspark and Wealthmill.

According to APJ COO, Peter Baladakis, several children across the country often lack access to essentials, school supplies and hygiene products.
“Many families endure financial and emotional concerns, making basic supplies challenging. The Pick n Pay Christmas giveaway hoped to reach these homes and bring children the thrill of receiving gifts and the joy of Christmas,” said Baladakis.
“As part of the Christmas giveaway, the teams prepared wholesome gift boxes that contained daily essentials.
“Each gift box contained products donated by over 10 leading brands in South Africa and was available for customers to purchase in-store at R150.
“The aim was to donate gift boxes to 850 children in need. AJP-owned Pick n Pay stores invited customers to purchase a gift box. They were also encouraged to write their names on the gift box and place it under the Christmas tree in-store.

“The enthusiastic in-store teams encouraged customers to join the Christmas initiative and the participation from customers was equally passionate.
“The CSI arm of the AJP group actively works towards uplifting local communities with its outreach programs throughout the year. The group initiates multiple small and large-scale initiatives intending to grow the reach among families and make a difference,” said Baladakis.
Mavis Mahlangu, the project manager at Bophelong-Empilweni New Life Community Project, was delighted with the donations that allowed the children to end their year with a bang.
“We would like to thank AJP and those who also sponsored the Christmas gifts for our young people. They enjoyed themselves and felt special. We appreciate their willingness to assist our children,” said Mahlangu.
