EMPD apprehends a male suspect in Pomona

Officers observed the suspects and captured a male suspect from the Pomona informal settlement.

The EMPD Anti Cable Theft Task Team apprehended a 56-year-old man on July 10 for tampering with essential infrastructure in Pomona, Kempton Park.

EMPD spokesperson Marie Mashishi said officers were patrolling the major crime hotspots in Pomona when they saw a suspicious group of individuals in a trench near the intersection of West and 4th Streets and approached them.

Male suspect with shovel, a pick, a hack saw, a silver blade, and ten meters of 4-core cable.

“When the officers approached the suspects, the suspects dropped everything and fled in different directions.

“The EMPD officers found a shovel, pick, hacksaw, silver blade and ten meters of 4-core cable at the scene,” said Mashishi.

She added the suspect was detained at the Kempton Park police station and will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon on allegations of interfering with essential infrastructure.

Investigations are underway, and the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Task Team will continue to monitor the situation.
