Police welcome local women in Operation Basadi

The police members advised motorists and passengers to keep their belongings safe and how to protect themselves from crime.

Kempton Park SAPS conducted Operation Basadi on August 10 to celebrate Women’s Month.

They conducted a roadblock at the intersection of Wellington Street and Pretoria Road under the leadership of the acting station commander Colonel Motsatsi Lesomo.

“During the roadblock, we searched for illegal firearms and other dangerous weapons. In Kempton Park, we have a serious challenge concerning assault cases and cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (assault GBH),” said Lesomo.

She added the operation aimed to turn Kempton Park into a crime and weapon-free zone and that officers wanted to reassure the community they were serious about preventing GBV.

During the roadblock, the police members advised motorists and passengers to keep their belongings safe and how to protect themselves from crime.

“There is no limit to what women can accomplish. The success of every woman should be an inspiration to one another,” said Lesomo.

She added they chose the intersection of Wellington Street and Pretoria Road because of the high number of street robberies and hijackings at this intersection.

“We have a major challenge with theft out of motor vehicles. Motorists should avoid leaving valuable items in their vehicles when parking at shopping centres. Motorists should also ensure that their vehicles are locked when parked,” she said.

“She is the first at the roadblock and last to go. She is an example to all the females at the police station.”
