DA demands action over rising rape cases in Thembisa

Expressing deep concern over the alarming rise in rape cases in the community, the DA staged a picket outside the Tembisa Rabasotho South Police Station on August 9.
The demonstration aimed to raise awareness of and put pressure on law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against perpetrators and provide support to victims.
In recent months, the community of Thembisa has witnessed a surge in reported cases of sexual assault, causing widespread fear and anxiety among residents.
The DA, recognising the urgency of the situation, took to the streets to demand justice and accountability.

The picket, held outside the police station, brought together community members, activists and DA representatives who joined forces to voice their concerns.
Holding placards and chanting slogans, the protesters called for immediate action to address the increase in rape cases and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

“We cannot stand idly by while our community members suffer in silence. The rising number of rape cases is deeply troubling, and we must demand that the authorities take this issue seriously,” said Refiloe Nt’sekhe, constituency head for Thembisa South.
The picket highlighted the need for increased resources, training and specialised units within the police force to effectively combat sexual assault.
The DA called for a comprehensive and coordinated approach that focuses on prevention, improved investigations, victim support and harsh penalties for offenders.
