Local flying squad nabs six suspects

From September 4 to September 7, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six suspects and recovered two motor vehicles.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested six suspects and recovered two motor vehicles between September 4 and September 7.

Officers patrolling in Morehill, Benoni on Monday last week, pulled over a white Isuzu with two occupants. The police searched for this vehicle in a Middelburg case in August 2023.

The officers interviewed the two suspects aged 26 and 32, on which they allegedly acknowledged the Middelburg case.

The officers contacted the investigating officer, and they instructed the police members to place the suspects under arrest, whereby they were detained at Benoni SAPS.

On the same day, a BFS vehicle patrolling in Harpur Avenue, Benoni searched a white Volkswagen Polo opposite the taxi rank.

The officers arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 26 when they found 21 bottles of Painagon medicine syrup in the vehicle’s boot.

The suspects could not explain the medicines nor produce proof of purchase.

The BFS members responded on September 5 to a shooting in progress in Ebony Street, Birch Acres.

On arrival, they found a Norkem Park SAPS vehicle with a complainant of an attempted hijacking.

The complainant alleged he shot one suspect and his accomplices took him in their getaway car.

The police members went to Tembisa Hospital to investigate if there was a shooting victim.

At the hospital, they found a 36-year-old suspect matching the description with a bullet wound to his left leg.

The complainant later identified the suspect, and they placed the suspect under arrest and a police guard at the hospital.

A complainant of a housebreaking case reported in August stopped officers patrolling in Brakpan on September 7 because he had information on the whereabouts of the suspect.

He took the members to an address in Nordeen Avenue where a 54-year-old suspect was identified and arrested on the case.

The police recovered two abandoned motor vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Polo at Ivory Park Ext 7, reported hijacked on a Thembisa case and a white Toyota Hilux at Clayville Ext 27, Olifantsfontein, reported stolen on a Boksburg North case.

The police investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects will appear in the Middelburg, Benoni, Thembisa and Brakpan Magistrate’s courts, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen goods, attempted murder, attempted hijacking and housebreaking.
