Local event raises awareness on LGBTQIA+ rights and GBV

The event served as a platform for various organisations to join forces and promote inclusivity, acceptance, and the eradication of GBV.

Various organisations and community members from Rabie Ridge united to promote LGBTQIA+ rights and address GBV on October 5.

The event, organised by the Rabie Ridge SAPS, the CPF, MEDSA, the Department of Health, the Department of Community Safety, LGBTQIA+ families, Woman As Safety Promoters (WASP), GBV Brigades, and Mamolele Day Care, was a resounding success, with all the stakeholders participating in the activities.

By standing up against abuse and supporting victims, Rabie Ridge is taking a step towards creating a safer environment for all residents.

The event unfolded with a march from Rabie Ridge Community Hall to Kanana Sports Ground, where pamphlets highlighting LGBTQIA+ issues and GBV were distributed among the community.

The pamphlets aimed to create awareness, educate, and spark conversations about these topics.
On reaching Kanana Sports Ground, all the stakeholders had an opportunity to address the LGBTQIA+ families present.

Among those who spoke was the Vispol commander of the Rabie Ridge SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Hlako.

In his address, he encouraged everyone to speak up and act when they see any abuse or victimisation.

Hlako emphasised the importance of support and solidarity in the community to ensure that LGBTQIA+ individuals feel safe and protected.
