Phomolong boys win KTVR-Harambee BRT Soccer League finals

The KTVR-Harambee Soccer League is organised by KTVR and supported by the City of Ekurhuleni’s Harambee BRT System, Gauteng Department of Education North District, Thembisa Schools Football Association and Kasi Sports Development.

KTVR hosted the annual KTVR-Harambee BRT Soccer League finals at the Mehlareng Stadium in Thembisa on October 13.

These games have been playing annually since 2018 with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

The 2023 finalists in the boy’s category were Bertharry Private School, Ikusasa High School, Phomolong High School and Zitikeni High School, who were the defending champions having won this tournament since its inception.

The finalists for the girl’s category were Phomolong High School and the defending champions, Thembisa School of Specialisation.

KTVR hosted the annual KTVR-Harambee BRT Soccer League finals.

In the boy’s category, Ikusasa took on Bertharry and Phomolong played against Zitikeni to determine who would play the final and stand a chance of winning R40 000.

After the exciting two semi-finals filled with spectacular moves and splendid goals, Bertharry and Phomolong advanced to the finals.

It was preceded by the girl’s final between Thembisa School of Specialisation and Phomolong who played to a 1-1 draw at full time, Phomolong then won the penalty shoot-out, after both teams converted three penalties resulting in sudden death. They won R25 000 and gold medals, while the runners-up won R15 000 and silver medals.

In the boy’s category, Phomolong were crowned the champions after defeating Bertharry 2-0, who won the second prize of R20 000.

The KTVR-Harambee Soccer League is organised by KTVR and supported by the City of Ekurhuleni’s Harambee BRT System, Gauteng Department of Education North District, Thembisa Schools Football Association and Kasi Sports Development.

KTVR spokesperson Tebogo Modise thanked all the schools that participated in this year’s edition of the games and all the stakeholders involved.

He indicated that these games are becoming better each year, hinting that the 2024 edition will be more exciting with the possibility of more partners coming on board.
