Thembinkosi School for LSEN’s market day raised awareness for mental health and intellectual disability.

Thembinkosi School for Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) organised a market day on October 31.

The event, held at the school’s premises, served as a platform for the learners to exhibit their skills and showcase completed projects.

More importantly, it aimed to raise awareness about mental health and highlight the experiences of those living with intellectual disabilities in the community.

From handmade crafts to delectable treats, the participants exhibited their creations, reflecting the hard work and dedication they put into their projects.

According to the school’s social worker, Mphendula Makhwenkwana, the event’s primary objective was to shed light on mental health, offering opportunities for open conversations and fostering understanding in the community.

Mental health issues often remain unspoken and stigmatised.

Through the market day, the learners challenged these barriers by initiating dialogue and building bridges of empathy and acceptance.

“Our market day was not just about showcasing the skills and projects of our learners but also about creating a more inclusive and understanding community.
