Thembisa man dies after a shooting incident

The motive for the shooting is still unknown, but the Thembisa Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

A 30-year-old man died after he was shot on Mmamashianoke Street between Khatlamping and Motsu Section in Thembisa on January 13.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela, the Ekurhuleni district communications officer, said police officers received a complaint about the shooting through radio control.

When the police arrived on the scene, they found a man lying on the ground with an injury resembling a bullet wound to his back.

Paramedics attended the scene and declared the man dead.

His body was taken to Germiston Mortuary.

Sekgobela said upon further investigation, officers found that the deceased and his two friends were walking from a local pub, where they had been drinking when the shooting occurred.

“On their way home, a white Polo stopped next to them, and the deceased and his friends started to run because they were afraid of being robbed,” said Sekgobela.

“The suspects fired shots at the men, hitting the deceased in the back and killing him. They also shot the man’s two friends, and both were admitted to hospital for treatment,” she said.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
