Pomona business set to appear in court tomorrow on murder charges

Bouwer will additionally face two charges of attempted murder for the shooting of his wife, Adelle, and himself.

Pomona businessman Anton Bouwer (56) made his first court appearance in the Kempton Park Regional Court on Thursday last week.

He stands accused of killing his parents Bettie (73) and Robert (78) Bouwer on January 22 at their house in Bredell.

He is also accused of killing his stepdaughter Natasha Bouwer (22) and domestic worker Elizabeth Gozwana (56) at a house in Fairleads, Benoni, on the same day.

Bouwer will additionally face two charges of attempted murder for the shooting of his wife, Adelle, and himself.

Adelle survived the shooting and was airlifted to hospital and is still reportedly in a critical condition.

Bouwer turned the gun on himself at the Fairleads home but survived. He was hospitalised under police guard.

On the day of the shootings, SAPS provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said Bouwer’s parents arrived at their home in Bredell at about 11:30 and found their son on the property.

“It is alleged he fatally shot his parents. The suspect then arrived at a home in Fairleads just after midday, where he carried out the other shootings before attempting to kill himself,” said Masondo.

Police on scene at the Bredell property where Robert (78) and Bettie (73) Bouwer were shot and killed.

The police have yet to establish the motive for the shootings.

The case against Bouwer was postponed to February 2 and it is expected that on the day he will apply for bail.
