TAXI STRIKE: Commuters left stranded, several routes affected
Police officers have been deployed to monitor the situation which has left thousands stranded across Ekurhuleni.
Thousands of commuters across Ekurhuleni were left stranded this morning due to a taxi strike.
“The EMPD wishes to confirm the taxi strike, which erupted this morning, causing disruption within the City of Ekurhuleni.
“Police officials have been deployed to monitor the situation, across the three regions of the City,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

“It is unclear what the cause for the strike is, but investigations are underway, at this moment we cannot speculate on the circumstances,” she added.

Routes affected include Kempton Park, Thembisa, Boksburg, Benoni and Germiston.

Thembisan Journalist, Floyd Mathebula said information received indicate the strike is likely to affect a large portion of Ekurhuleni.
“We are still waiting for Santaco to release an official statement on this matter.”
