Local church brings back annual community picnic event

Organisers aimed for the day to be about families spending quality time together and also as a means for community outreach.

Christ Apostolic Church Victory Chapel recently hosted an Easter picnic event at Dries Niemandt Park.

The church started the annual event in 2012, but picnic events were put on hold in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event has now made a return.

Evangelist Steve Agbabiaka said he wanted to reach out to the community using the Gospel to remind everyone of the love of Jesus Christ and to further promote unity within all races, cultures, tribes and genders.

“The event was also about enlightening the youth about the need to stay in school, have a purpose-driven life, and to remind them that instant gratification or pleasure only leads to long-term addictions and consequences,” he said.
