Plane makes emergency landing at OR Tambo International Airport

The decision made was to return to Johannesburg. Despite the damaged tyre, the plane landed smoothly, with no injuries reported.

The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that FlySafair flight FA212 landed safely at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) in Johannesburg a short while ago after turning back because of a technical problem on April 21.

The plane, bound for Cape Town, reportedly sustained damage to a rear tyre during take-off. Ground staff at OR Tambo noticed this, and the flight crew was alerted.

The decision made was to return to Johannesburg. Despite the damaged tyre, the plane landed smoothly, with no injuries reported.

“We praise the FlySafair pilots and crew for their professional handling of this emergency.

“Their training and experience ensured all passengers on board the plane walked away unscathed,” said the regional general manager at ACSA, Jabulani Khambule.

As a result of the problem, one of the runways at OR Tambo International Airport was closed for a few hours.
