Local studio keeps art alive in the community

The school is for art lovers of all ages because their youngest student is seven and their oldest is in their 70s.

Sole owner Yolandi du Toit established Lapatique Art Studio in 2018.

The school started with just two students in 2018 and now has about 40.

“We participate annually in the South African National Visual Art Championships.

“I most definitely see my students taking art as a career. Some of my former students have moved on to start their own businesses, creating beautiful works of their own,” said Du Toit.

She said three of the school’s students, Tendi Sinoia, Keith Sinoia and Talitha Jenkins, have already sold their artwork.

“We frequently sign up new students, and she would like to expand and reach more creative minds, especially in areas where children need to focus on a healthier outlet.

“My hopes and dreams for school are that it inspires creativity and helps people reach their true artistic potential.”
She said young artists should never give up on their dreams, trust the process and always believe in themselves.
