Former Big Brother contestant sets high goals for his life

He wants to venture into script writing, directing, and screenplays while still releasing music and doing commercial modelling.

Kempton Park’s Sabelo Ncube, known to his fans as Papa Ghost, entered the Big Brother House hoping to walk out with the R2m cash prize.

The show ended on March 31, with Mcjunior Zondi crowned the winner.

Ncube finished in the top six and suffered eviction shortly before the show ended.

Reflecting on his time in the house, Ncube said his late father’s advice inspired him to join the show.

“My father said I had the correct traits to make it into the show.”

Ncube said he considered how the show could introduce him to the world as an artist.

“I entered Big Brother because my father always said I would do well. He said I have a great personality and character. It has stayed with me since he said it.

“This time around, when the audition poster came out, I had four people send it to me in two days. I asked myself why they would send me the poster.

“When I thought about it, I realised it was a great opportunity to introduce myself to the world,” said Ncube.

Speaking to the Kempton Express, Papa Ghost said his stay in the Big Brother house was unforgettable.

“My experience in the house was a beautiful journey. I am strong mentally and kept myself grounded through meditation and prayer. I knew that despite people becoming vulnerable and everybody gunning for one thing.

“There was not a chance we could all get the prize, and I told myself not to get lost in the journey.”

Ncube said he always tried to remove himself from the thought of winning and was not there for the money.

“I always slacked at the money games, but my focus was always on a Thursday, the wager task presentations.

“I looked at my time in the house as working for a company. On Monday, our boss gave us a task with a Thursday deadline. I had to ensure my boss was happy with my work,” said Ncube.

Ncube explained the meaning behind the name Papa Ghost.

“I lived in PE while studying at Nelson Mandela University and would pop in and out of Kempton and PE, so my friends started calling me a ghost.

“The ‘papa’ comes from my nieces, who call me ‘papa’. That is where the name Papa Ghost transitioned, and the name has been on my social handles since.”

According to Ncube, he had no strategy going into the house.

“I said I would be myself and engage with the others. I did not have to be abrasive and avoided stepping on people’s toes because of the drama it might create.

“I also stood my ground and chose not to waver in my principles and morals. I only had a plan in my last week.

“I planned to go crazy on my housemates and took advantage of the fatigue we all felt after being in the house for nine weeks. By then, I also felt the fatigue and just wanted to enjoy my last moments in the house,” added Ncube.

He said people have told him he played well. He believes that was his destiny.

Ncube said his quarrels with fellow housemate Eulenda Monyai occurred because he was vocal and stood his ground, unlike other housemates, who watched Yolanda do crazy stuff.

“I was one of the vocal people in the house. She started to figure out what my triggers were and would intentionally play on them to get my reactions. I think that was Yolanda’s strategy.

“She was abrasive and always on the tip of everyone’s tongues. Regardless of everything, I think deep inside she liked me,” said Ncube.

Ncube said he plans to dominate the entertainment industry. He wants to get into script writing, directing and screenplays while still releasing music alongside his modelling career.

“I aim to expand on what I have been doing. Something big is coming up. People were impressed with the project we did in week seven for the wager task presentation, and there is a chance it will become something real.”

Ncube said if he had won the R2m, he would have bought his mother a car as a token of appreciation and booked himself a trip abroad to relax.

He said he missed his mother and nephew when in the house because he always spent time with them.

“I remember in week five, I asked Big Brother to organise a picture of my nephew for me.”

Ncube said he faced some challenges in the house, such as seeing his girlfriend, Lerato Modise, evicted.

“The game became harder when they evicted Lerato on a Monday, and we did not see it coming. She was the first person evicted on a Monday.

“That was bad, but luckily, my little sister came out the next day and reinforced the energy of my thirst for being in the game.”

Ncube said Lerato was around but busy at that moment, and the couple would make headlines soon.

“To everyone in Ekurhuleni, I feel like I am carrying the torch, and I am going to hold up the name of where we come from and what we represent higher in the further stages of the world.

“I was never shy to say I grew up in Thembisa. I am happy I had the chance to represent Ekurhuleni and that everyone is proud of how far I went in the game.”
