JMPD officer killed in early morning mutli-vehicle crash on R21

Three lanes on the R21 north were closed following the early morning multi-vehicle crash.

EMPD spokesperson, Thabiso Makgato has confirmed that a 26-year-old female JMPD officer was killed on the R21 this morning.

According to Makgato two vehicles were involved in a crash on the R21 north before the Bapsfontein Road off ramp.

“A female JMPD officer was declared dead at the scene,” she said.

Traffic was heavily affected following a three lane closure of the highway.

The cause of the crash is unknown and will form part of a detailed police investigation.

Alternate Routes

Motorists travelling on the R21 towards Pretoria are advised to take the R21 Benoni off-ramp.

Motorists can then turn into High Road and turn right onto Pretoria Road.

By driving on the R25 motorists can once again join the R21 north.
