Child Welfare Kempton Park holds successful winter drive
“Going forward, Child Welfare will work with other stakeholders and organisations in Kempton Park to plan an awareness campaign that will reach more children.”
Child Welfare Kempton Park recently held a winter drive for children in the community.
The event aimed to educate the youth and help raise awareness surrounding different issues they face in their lives.
Rebeccah Moabelo, director of Child Welfare Kempton Park, said children experience many challenges and problems in their daily lives, either at school or in the community, such as bullying.

“It is our plan as Child Welfare Kempton Park to keep on interacting with children.
“We are a child protection organisation and want to feed our children with the information they need for their safety. The hope was to pass on knowledge which will help children in dealing with the problems they face.”
Moabelo said the organisation works with 39 children between the ages of five and 12.
She said bullying was discussed with the children.
“Bullying is one of the challenges the children experience. We spoke to them about how they could protect themselves from people who bully them,” she said.
The children were also given refreshments and toiletries.
Moabelo said parents and caregivers enjoyed the day’s activities.

“The information their children received was an eye-opener and many realised that children were killing themselves as a result of being bullied.

“This is not the first time we have engaged with the children and they participated actively in the day’s programme,” said Moabelo.
“Going forward, child welfare will work with other stakeholders and organisations in Kempton Park to plan an awareness campaign that will reach more children.
“Support in terms of posters, booklets and other learning materials as well as refreshments for children will be required,” said Moabelo.
“The programme aligned with the vision and goals of the organisation as our vision is to protect, promote and enhance the interests, wellbeing, safety and development of children in need of care within the context of their family and community in Kempton Park.”
