Birch Acres model and actress aims for the stars

In Grade 10, Mkhize took drama as a subject and continued with it until she completed her matric.

Nothando Zekhethelo Mkhize is a young actress and model from Birch Acres who got her big break in acting in 2023 after attending countless auditions.

She landed her first role in the Mandoza biopic that was broadcast on BET Africa.

“I fell in love with acting because I have a strong passion for storytelling.

“The ability to create believable characters and bring characters to life just fascinated me from a very young age.

“What also drew me more into acting is the fact that acting allows you to express yourself in many different ways,” she said.

Mkhize said she started to model because she grew up very insecure and was bullied.

“I loved how confident models were and I wanted to be like them because I wanted to build up my self-esteem and self-confidence,” said Mkhize.

She is currently signed to Triune Professional Actors Agency.

“One of the actors I look up to in the industry is Dawn Thandeka King, simply because of her exceptional skills and craftsmanship.

“She has set a benchmark for me to strive towards.

“I received an opportunity to work with her in the Mandoza biopic as she played the role of my mother, and I learned a lot from her.”

Explaining her role in the Mandoza biopic, Mkhize said she played the character of Sizo, one of Mandoza’s younger sisters.

“Sizo is a reserved character compared to Buhle (the youngest sister) who is an extroverted character.

“Sizo was less of a talker and more of a listener. The only similarity between Sizo and me is that I am less of a talker and more of a listener. I would say I am more of an introvert, just like Sizo.”

Mkhize said she now hopes to attend more acting workshops in hopes of polishing her craft.

“I would advise young women who would like to get into the acting industry to firstly polish their craft by taking acting classes or attending acting workshops.

“That way, they have a better chance of landing roles in the industry.

“I would also advise anyone wanting to join the industry to be patient because a dream delayed is not a dream denied,” she said.
