NPO brings Thembisa senior citizens together
The organisations united the elders of Thembisa to celebrate Mandela Day with them.
The Share The Love NPO united the elderly residents of Thembisa to share the love and celebrate Nelson Mandela on July 18 at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre.
Volunteers from the NPO wanted to show their appreciation to the elderly folk in the community.
The NPO invited several entities and services to the event to engage with the residents and answer any questions they might have.

Event co-ordinator Keneilwe Morobela from the NPO said she approached various departments that could answer questions in the minds of many senior citizens.
“I chose the specific departments because I wanted them to offer the elderly knowledge on various topics, such as growing their own food.”
The event featured representatives from various government departments.
“We wanted to help seniors who have problems at home. I also wanted to have banks available to help the residents get details about accessing their funds to prevent them from becoming victims of fraud. Senior citizens must have control of their finances.”

Motobela added that she also wanted to help teach the seniors about mental health and how to care for themselves.
“The idea was to share love with the elderly who raised us.”
Community member Marumo Maake said she was thrilled to celebrate the day with her elders.
“I am happy to celebrate with our mothers and elderly members of the community. We have parents in the community and should celebrate them while we still can.”
