Kempies learner obtains six medals at world championships

Hoërskool Kempton Park learner Jordon Phillips recently represented SA at the World Championship of Performing Arts in California, USA.

He said he made it to the semi-finals and obtained six medals for different categories.
“I won medals in the instrumental genre’s classical, jazz, open, contemporary and original works.

“The most challenging and rewarding performance was for original works, I played my composition Rescue Me.
“I went through to the semi-finals with my song,” said Phillips.
“It was an amazing feeling and I feel blessed.
“It was an honour to represent South Africa and being a part of Team SA. It was a great experience to take part in the competition, with all the talented contestants from across the world,” said Phillips.
He stated that his highlights of the experience included watching the performances and making new friends, adding that the team spirit in the SA team was awesome.

Phillips said he faced some challenges with his equipment malfunctioning, but he managed to get through it.
“I practised playing the songs a few hours a day and in the end the hard work paid off,” said Phillips.
“I pushed myself to do my best because I wanted to gain exposure in the entertainment industry.”
Phillips said his future plans include becoming a successful musician, creating and writing music.
He said in order to build his future success, he will be setting goals, networking with others here and overseas in the industry and constantly improving his song writing, composing and playing skills.

“I was well supported and cheered on by everyone. This was a once in a lifetime, unforgettable experience.”
“This experience will have a lasting positive impact on my life.
“It has taught me that with hard work and faith, I can reach any dream that I set for myself.”
Phillips said his fondest memories of the tour were the amazing friends that he made and performing on international grounds against so many talented contestants from across the globe.
