CoE urges water conservation this spring

“As the temperatures begin to rise, so will water use, and during that time, all of us doing our part is crucial to preserve this limited resource.”

The CoE reminds residents of the importance of water conservation, especially during spring.

“As the temperatures begin to rise, so will water use, and during that time, all of us doing our part is crucial to preserve this limited resource,” said Zweli Dlamini, the spokesperson for the CoE.

“The CoE is committed to promoting water conservation and sustainability. We encourage all residents to join us in this effort by adopting water-saving practices to avoid Day Zero,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini provided water-saving tips to help residents.

“Water your lawn and garden in the early morning or evening to minimise evaporation, fix leaks in your irrigation system and adjust your watering schedules based on seasonal needs,” he said.

He advised residents to sweep their driveways, sidewalks and steps rather than hosing them down.

“Plant drought-tolerant plants and trees that require less water. Use a spring-loaded shutoff nozzle on your garden hose to avoid water waste, and avoid washing cars with hosepipes; use buckets instead, and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.

“By following these tips and prioritising water conservation, residents can save money on their water bill and reduce strain on the water treatment facilities,” said Dlamini.
