Successful operation lands 78 behind bars

Rapid Response services held successful operations which led to 78 arrests, recoveries of 49 vehicles and four firearms.

Between September 6 and September 12 Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 78 suspects, recovering 49 motor vehicles and four firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 31 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, shoplifting, business burglary, attempted theft, possession of stolen property, rape and damage to essential infrastructure.

A total of 49 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 19 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Four unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying one arrest.

In further policing, 27 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
