The entire school community came together to celebrate her achievement, with dancing and cheering for the young “hero” who showcased the school’s name on the international stage.

Tanya Jakeni celebrated by family, school mates and HOD for her heroism.

Remarkably, Tanya is only a Grade 11 learner who took on the challenge of participating in a highly competitive and demanding event.

Reflecting on her experience, she shared, “Germany was a mix of emotions and beautiful moments.

“Despite the challenges during the competition, I fought my way to the top. Coming from a township doesn’t mean you lack potential; hard work can take you anywhere with commitment and self-belief.

“My support system is in Africa, where my roots lie, but I won’t stop dreaming of traveling beyond the continent. As a Grade 11 learner, I’m confident that my hard work will continue to open doors.”

Chriselda Makhubela, director of Independent Schools, praised Tanya’s achievement.

“We celebrate a young girl from the Eastern Cape who now lives in Thembisa. Her success is a testament to the potential of girls in this area, defying expectations and achieving the extraordinary.

“Tanya’s story will inspire other learners to strive for greatness, and her legacy will be marked by action and courage.”
