Red Devils Pantsula celebrates 21 years

Red Devils Pantsula hosted dancers from around the province to celebrate their 21 years anniversary.

Red Devils Pantsula on October 26, with a celebratory event in Winnie Mandela, honoured their journey of perseverance, unity, and shared successes.

The group, which has weathered numerous challenges since its formation, was joined by prominent figures in the pantsula industry to commemorate their legacy.

The event was a reminder of humble beginnings when community members often mocked them and called them disparaging names.

Over the years, the group faced multiple setbacks, including losing competitions, struggling to afford dance uniforms, and dealing with transportation issues.

Solly Phegane, known as King Msola, reflected on the enduring spirit of the group.

“The dream that began decades ago is still alive,” he said.

“As Red Devils Pantsula, we stand apart from other dancers because we committed ourselves to making dance our livelihood and a way to provide for our families.

“When we formed this crew in 2003, we created a ‘secret constitution’ that emphasised loyalty and respect above all. The aim was never money but to build trust and foster unity.”

The group’s achievements now extend beyond their local community.

“We are proud to have a junior team preparing to compete on the international stage at Britain’s Got Talent next year,” Phegane added.

“Another significant milestone is our magazine, Big Brother Little Brother, produced and published by Phillip Daniel Ducasse in New York City.”

The crew’s breakthrough came when they received sponsorship from BJM Johannes Mkonza, chairman of the Ivory Park Taxi Rank Association.

This partnership which began in 2010, has spanned 14 years and has been pivotal to the group’s continued success.

Red Devils Pantsula has a packed performance schedule through January, including an upcoming trip to Namibia in December.

“We thank the sponsors who supported our 21st Anniversary Celebration: BJM Transport Transfer, Ikeja Wi-Fi, PinPop, Gauteng Sports, Arts & Culture, Amakipkip, Vodacom, Spelete, and Halfclutch.”
