Melville Koppies welcomes hikers

For those interested in a deeper understanding of the Koppies, a 3km guided tour is available by booking at 079 532 0083.

On October 27, Melville Koppies came alive as a large group of hikers from the Mountain Club visited to explore its scenic trails.

The day saw the monthly 8km hiking group, along with other adventurers keen to explore at their own pace.

Jenny Grice, a Melville Koppies volunteer, shared that they are always eager to accommodate hikers’ preferences.

At the halfway point, the 8km group split into two: one group pressed on to complete the full hike, while others, captivated by the Koppies’ historical, geological, and natural features, took a shorter, guided educational route.

The Koppies is open to the public on Sundays from 08:30 to 11:00.

Visitors can choose from several self-guided options: a 5km trail, a 3km heritage trail, and a scavenger hunt designed for those with a sense of adventure.

Entrance fees are R90 for adults and R50 for persons under 18.
