Laerskool Mooifontein hosts colour run

The principal, Sophie Phahle, said they planned to make the colour run an annual tradition.

Laerskool Mooifontein recently brought excitement and colour to the community by hosting a fun-filled colour run.

The event was the first since the school had initially planned one, several years ago, which was cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Face painting was also available for the young ones.

This year’s colour run welcomed the school’s learners and the entire community, with stalls and activities available for all attendees.

“There were a few hiccups since it was our first time managing an event involving our learners and community,” said Mashaba, a teacher at Laerskool Mooifontein.

“We had ticketing and payment issues, but it has been a valuable learning experience. Our next one will be better.”

The head girl, Puno Mmako, reflected on the event’s success, feeling bittersweet as it was her last colour run as a learner at the school, as she was currently in Grade Seven.

Though I will miss this school, I will attend the next colour run as it is open to the community.

“I am grateful to my teachers—they made me feel like family,” she shared.

The learners were in high spirits on the day.

The principal, Sophie Phahle, said they planned to make the colour run an annual tradition.

“We will host another colour run around this time next year,” she said.

“We initially expected about 500 participants, but around 1 000 people joined us. I thank everyone who came out; we appreciate your support.”
