City calls on wordsmiths to come forward for poetry competition

Three categories on the score sheet will determine the outcome; lyrical, dramatic and narrative.

The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on all wordsmiths from across the region to battle it out on stage through a slam poetry competition.

Interested poets must be residents of the city and be 16 years or older to participate.

There will be no registration, just walk-ins.

Three categories on the score sheet will determine the outcome; lyrical, dramatic and narrative.

The slam poetry competition will take place in various places around the city.

The top three performers from each area will be chosen to participate in the grand finale on December 13, at the Dumisani Masilela Theater in Germiston.

In the southern region, the competition will take place on November 26 from 10:00 to 16:00 at the Katlehong Library Auditorium.

In the eastern region, the competition will take place on November 27 from 10:00 to 16:00 at Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Center and on November 28 from 10:00 to 16:00 at KwaThema Library.

The northern region date for the competition is November 29 from 10:00 to 16:00 at Thembisa West Library.
