Fire Safety Precautions
With the heightened risk of combustibles igniting easily, residents are reminded to:
- Avoid leaving open flames and heat sources unattended.
- Store flammable liquids and gases safely.
Understanding Heat-Related Illnesses
Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to serious health conditions, including dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
Dehydration
What is it?
Excessive loss of body fluids or electrolytes, leading to malfunctioning vital organs.
Symptoms:
- Lethargy
- General weakness
Prevention:
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid alcohol and fizzy drinks.
Heat Cramps
What is it?
Muscle spasms caused by the loss of electrolytes and water, commonly affecting the abdomen, arms, and calves.
Treatment:
- Rehydrate with water or sports drinks.
- Avoid strenuous activity for a few hours.
- Massage affected muscles gently.
- Stay out of direct sunlight.
Heat Exhaustion
What is it?
The body’s inability to cool itself effectively, exacerbated by high temperatures and physical exertion.
Symptoms:
- Heavy sweating
- Weakness and tiredness
- Pale, clammy skin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache and fainting
Treatment:
- Sip cool water or sports drinks with electrolytes.
- Cool the body using water sprays or fanning.
- Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
Heat Stroke
What is it?
A severe condition where the body temperature exceeds 40°C, potentially causing organ damage or death.
Symptoms:
- Red, hot skin
- Confusion and dizziness
- Seizures or loss of consciousness
Treatment:
- Remove excess clothing.
- Cool the body under a cold shower or in the shade.
- Transport the patient to a medical facility immediately.

- Avoid swimming in unauthorized areas like rivers or trenches.
- Report open trenches to prevent drowning hazards.
- Limit outdoor activities in the sun.
- Wear sun hats, sunglasses, and light, bright clothing.
