Bank uplifts Thembisa learners with back-to-school initiative

African Bank reaffirmed its relationship with Thembinkosi LSEN Primary School after having a great relationship in the previous years.

African Bank held a back-to-school event at Thembinkosi LSEN Primary School in Thembisa on January 28.

The initiative celebrated the handing over of newly upgraded school facilities that enhance the learning environment and the distribution of essential school supplies, ensuring the learners are well-equipped for success this year.

The event is part of the nationwide Whole School Development model, created in partnership with the Adopt-A-School Foundation, which has benefitted six schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape since March 2022.

Thembinkosi LSEN caters to children with special educational needs.

African Bank’s funding of visual and audiology support programmes reflects its commitment to supporting special needs learners.

Over 900 learners have already benefitted from essential vision and hearing screenings and assistive devices like foldable wheelchair transfer boards, high-visibility visual impairment keyboards, A4 sheet magnifiers, talking pens, USB switches and Samsung tablets.

These tools empower learners with special needs to succeed academically and participate fully in school life.

African Bank has made significant upgrades at the school, including installing a mobile ablution block and a drainage system.

It has also enhanced school leadership by training the governing body to ensure informed decision-making for the school’s future.

Besides improving infrastructure, the bank has focused on teaching and learner well-being.
