MMC visits Thembisa to assess water supply and infrastructure.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) remains committed to maintaining a reliable water supply and effective sanitation services for all residents by addressing water leaks and persistent sewerage blockages, which are often caused by the disposal of foreign objects.
During a visit to Thembisa and the Ekurhuleni Water Care Company (ERWAT) Vlakplaats plant in Vosloorus, MMC for Water and Sanitation Thembi Msane highlighted the importance of proactive measures to tackle the causes of leaks and wastewater quality issues.
She engaged with officials to explore solutions for the problem of over-capacitated sewerage pipes, focusing on strategies to increase capacity and prevent future overflows.

These measures aim to safeguard public health and protect the environment.
As plans progress to enhance water treatment capacity to meet the city’s growing demands and support local industries, Msane urged residents to play their part in preventing sewage spillages by keeping foreign objects out of sewerage lines.
“The city’s efforts can only be successful with the cooperation of our residents,” Msane stated.
To help prevent sewerage blockages, residents should adopt proper disposal habits.

Flush only toilet paper down the toilet, and use appropriate bins for all other waste.
Fats, oils, and grease should never be poured down the drain; instead, collect it in a container and dispose of it properly.
