SAPS warns of scammers targeting job seekers

SAPS urge community members to refrain from paying for jobs and use proper methods to secure jobs.

The SAPS is urging community members, particularly young adults seeking employment, to remain vigilant against scammers posing as recruiters in the teaching field.

On January 17, one victim received a call informing her that a teaching position was available at a school near Rabie Ridge.

She was instructed to submit her CV and make a deposit of R5 000 to secure the job.

The victim was provided with an account number to which the money should be deposited, and she complied.

After the payment was made, the scammer confirmed receipt of the funds and advised her to come in for an interview on Monday.

When the victim arrived at the school’s security gate and explained she was there for an interview, the security officer informed her that no such interview had been scheduled.

Despite this, she persisted in asking to enter the school.

Before she could enter, three other women arrived for the same interview.

She asked them for the phone number and account details they had been given and discovered that it was the same as hers.

On entering the school, they were told that no interviews were taking place, and they were advised to report the matter to the SAPS at Rabie Ridge.

The SAPS is urging all job seekers to apply for positions through legitimate and transparent channels.
