EMPD impounds foreign vehicle at ORTIA

The vehicle was moved to Kempton Park Pound for safekeeping.

Officers from the EMPD’s Overloads Unit impounded a blue Honda hatchback with Botswana registration plates at OR Tambo International Airport on February 19.

According to EMPD spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers were conducting law enforcement duties when they stopped the foreign-registered vehicle for inspection.

On questioning the driver, officers verified that he possessed a valid South African driver’s licence, which is a legal requirement to operate a vehicle within the country.

However, the driver was unable to provide the necessary valid vehicle documents, such as proof of ownership and the original certificate of registration.

Dlamini stated that officers informed the driver of the legal requirements for operating a foreign-registered vehicle within South Africa.

They also explained the procedures and documents required for the vehicle to be released.

As a result, the vehicle was impounded and moved to the Kempton Park Pound for safekeeping until the required documentation is provided.
