Police join forces with businesses to crack down on crime

Partnership aims to tackle crime, enhance public safety and strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector.

The Ministry of Police and the National Policing Summit hosted a Ministerial Business Commitment Dinner, highlighting the deepening partnership between the SAPS and the business sector in the fight against crime.

The event brought together key stakeholders from Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA), SAPS and other private sector leaders.

It reinforced a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to enhancing public safety and crime prevention.

The dinner also marked the formal signing of a partnership between SAPS and the business community, following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2023 call for stronger collaboration to safeguard South African citizens.

SAPS emphasised that this alliance is central to the Integrated Crime and Violence Prevention Strategy (ICVPS), which prioritises partnerships to tackle issues such as border security, illegal firearms and transnational drug trafficking.

Concerned by rising violent crime, SAPS noted that illegal firearms account for 43% of murders reported in the third quarter crime statistics.
