Ekurhuleni rolls out mini dumpsites to curb illegal dumping

To combat illegal dumping and encourage responsible waste disposal, Ekurhuleni has introduced over 30 mini dumpsites for safe, legal garden and recyclable waste drop-off.

To curb illegal dumping and promote responsible waste disposal, the City of Ekurhuleni has made over 30 mini dumpsites available for residents across the metro.

These strategically placed sites offer a convenient and legal alternative for disposing of recyclable waste, including garden refuse, which is often improperly dumped in open spaces or mixed with domestic waste destined for landfill sites.

Residents are encouraged to use these facilities to reduce the burden on landfills and contribute to a cleaner environment.

In particular, garden waste should be taken to mini dumpsites instead of being dumped illegally or thrown out with household waste.

Alternatively, residents are urged to compost garden waste at home and reuse the nutrient-rich compost as fertiliser in their gardens.

To accommodate changing daylight hours, the mini dumpsites operate on seasonal hours:
• Winter (April to September): 07:00 – 18:00
• Summer (October to March): 07:00 – 19:00

The city reminds all residents that proper waste disposal is a shared responsibility and encourages communities to utilise these resources to help keep Ekurhuleni clean and green.
