Kempton Runners ready for 2025 Comrades Marathon

Kempton Road Runners hosted an inspiring send-off for 37 runners participating in the 98th Comrades Marathon. The weekend featured a motivational talk, pasta evening, and prayer service to support athletes ahead of the iconic 89.98km ultramarathon on June 8.

The Kempton Road Runners (KRR) hosted an emotional and celebratory send-off on May 24 for its athletes heading to the 98th Comrades Marathon.

This year’s 89.98km down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban will be June 8.

The send-off run, held at Finish Line Cycles in Glen Acres, Kempton Park, brought together runners, family, and friends to honour the dedication and determination of the 37 KRR members who qualified to take on the world’s most famous ultramarathon.

Club chairperson Frits Klaver shared his pride in the athletes, highlighting the strong sense of camaraderie within the club.

“This is not just about running; it is about pushing limits, lifting each other, and doing something extraordinary together,” said Klaver.

The weekend was filled with inspiring activities to build excitement and prepare the runners for the challenge.

On Saturday evening, members gathered for a pasta evening, featuring renowned running coach Nuno Thomasz as the guest speaker.

His motivational talk covered final race day preparations, including practical advice on nutrition, tapering, and mental readiness.

On Sunday, the club held a special church service at NG Kempton Kruin where runners and supporters united in prayer for safety, endurance, and success on race day, a touching moment of shared faith and encouragement.

KRR is more than just a running club; it is a community.

Weekly time trials are every Tuesday at Barnard Stadium, offering consistent training and the chance to connect with other runners.
