Ekurhuleni targets illegal billboards in citywide cleanup

“When reports pass through too many hands, facts get lost, emotions take over, and the animals, the ones we’re all trying to protect, are the ones who lose,” said the branch’s chairperson, Christine Kuch.

The City of Ekurhuleni has launched a clampdown on illegal billboards, including in Alberton.

MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi, said non-compliant billboards will be marked with ‘illegal advertising’ stickers, serving as a warning to owners to bring their structures in line with regulations.

The campaign kicked off in Alberton, with billboard owners given 21 days to contact the city and rectify their non-compliance.

Failure to do so will result in fines, legal action, and possible removal of the billboard at the owner’s expense.

“We are committed to ensuring that our city is a place where businesses can thrive, but we will not tolerate non-compliance with our laws and regulations,” said Nomadlozi Nkosi.

“We urge all billboard owners to take action to avoid any unnecessary penalties and costs.”

Billboard owners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the regulations and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance.
