Multiple suspects arrested in anti-drug operations

Five suspects were arrested in separate incidents by the Benoni Flying Squad between July 28 and 31.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad arrested five suspects and seized narcotics in separate incidents between July 28 and 31.

The first arrest took place on July 28 around 06:40, when officers patrolling the N12 in the direction of Benoni spotted a white Lexus speeding.

The vehicle took the R555 Etwatwa offramp, where officers intercepted and searched it.

Six bags of dagga valued at around R10 000 was recovered from the vehicle.

A 30-year-old suspect was arrested after police discovered six bags of dagga, with an estimated street value of R10 000, inside the vehicle.

The dagga was booked in as evidence at Etwatwa SAPS, and the car was impounded as it was allegedly used in the commission of a crime.

In follow-up operations on July 31, officers arrested four more suspects, aged between 27 and 39, in separate incidents across Tsakane (Mabaso and Nhlapo streets) and Prince George Avenue in Brakpan.

Police recovered cocaine (rocks) and crystal methamphetamine during these arrests.

All suspects are expected to appear in their respective local Magistrate’s Courts, facing charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.

The investigations are ongoing.
